Community Development Agency - Current Planning
The Current Planning Division administers and enforces zoning and subdivision regulations in accordance with the Marin Countywide Plan and applicable state laws. The Division is responsible for processing applications for development permits and providing public information on general plan, zoning, and subdivision matters. This Division seeks to protect and preserve the high quality of the County’s natural and built environments.

Community Development Agency - Community Planning
The Community Planning Division maintains and updates the Countywide Plan, conducts community planning, manages green building and green business programs and is staff to the Marin Economic Commission.

Board of Supervisors - Boards and Commissions: Planning Commission
The Commission reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on all countywide and community plan elements and amendments, master plans, and rezonings. The commission has final authority (pending appeal to the Board of Supervisors) on subdivisions, design reviews, use permits, and other planning decisions appealed from planning staff actions. The Commission also hears appeals of the findings of the Deputy Zoning Administrator and actions of the County’s planning staff.

Community Development Agency - EHS: Advisories

Community Development Agency - EHS: Food Program
Mandated by State law (California Retail Food Facilities Law - CalCode), EHS permits and inspects retail food facilities in Marin County. In addition to routine inspections, EHS staff responds to health and safety complaints as well as reports of food-borne illness associated with a food facility.The purpose of the Food Program is to prevent the occurrence of food borne illnesses; to promote the preparation, production and service of food in hygienic, appealing food facilities and to protect the health of the food worker by encouraging safe and sanitary on-the-job working conditions.

Community Development Agency - EHS: Pool Program
Marin County Environmental Health Pool Program requires permits for all public pools in Marin County. The County is divided into eight districts each of which has an inspector who is responsible for responding to complaints and inspecting the pools every year. The concern of E.H.S. in this area is public health and safety. The purpose of the Pool Program is to assure that all public swimming pools and spas are maintained in a safe and healthful condition.

Community Development Agency - EHS: Septic Systems Program
The purpose of the Septic Systems Program is to protect the health of the public and environment from the improper disposal of sewage from on-site-sewage systems and greywater systems. This is accomplished through the evaluation and permitting of on-site sewage systems, greywater systems and septage haulers.

Community Development Agency - EHS: Solid Waste
In November 1992, Environmental Health Services was re-designated as the solid waste Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) for Marin County by the eleven cities and County of Marin and subsequently certified by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB). Prior to that date, and since 1977, Environmental Health Services was designated as the enforcement agency for solid waste provisions applicable during that period. The current certification enables Environmental Health Services staff to permit, inspect and enforce regulations at solid waste disposal sites, solid waste transformation facilities, transfer and processing stations, and materials recovery facilities. The purpose of this program is to protect the public health and the environment from the effects of improper storage, collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste including flies, rodents, scenic blight, public nuisance, and water pollution. The goal of this program is accomplished through a program of inspection, permitting, complaint investigation, public education, and assistance to industry.
