The deluge has been constant today. Our big tree is becoming quite mossy and there is a lake in our backyard. We do need the rain, but golly — it is sure causing a tremendous amount of distress. At least we aren’t having the out-of-control winds we experienced earlier this month.

Highway 101 on the Sonoma-Marin County border has been closed down. Apparently, the San Antonio Creek has overflowed and roads have been observed to be covered by 2 feet of water. SFGate reports that drivers are being diverted at Atherton Avenue and Lakeville Drive in Petaluma.

400 residents of Fairfax and San Anselmo have been asked to evacuate as the Corte Madera Creek reached flood stage.

As of 9:15 pst, there is a report that Downtown Novato is flooding due to the Novato Creek. Sonoma officials report that businesses along 101 North of Petaluma have evacuated. There are numerous flooded roadways in the area and these floodwaters hard to spot at night. If you observe flooding get yourselves to high ground.

Tonight 7000 PG&E customers have been without power. The North Bay has been hardest hit so far with 2638 folks without power. These numbers are considered far less than close to million that lost their power in the last big storm. There is no eta on the power being restored and more outages are possible overnight.

- This week the Novato City Council voted to submit a letter to the board of the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District telling SMART the proposed station locations in Novato are no longer acceptable. Two council members, Pat Eklund and Jim Leland, have expressed that they would withhold support for the quarter-cent tax measure going on the ballot this November to fund SMART. Trying to find alternate sites is supposedly in the works but working out who is going to pay for the new environmental impact report for the new locations may be a sticking point.

- Plans will be presented at the Hamilton Community Forum on July 31,
Monday, for a 55,000 sq. ft. Safeway super-store, a separate 47,000
sq. ft. retail building with several shops, and a gas station, all proposed for the property on the northwest edge of Hamilton, next to the Courtyard Marriott and MacDonalds. This Forum meeting will take place in the Novato Arts Center second-
floor conference room, 500 Palm Drive, beginning at 630pm with refreshments. The structured agenda and presentation will begin at 7pm. The status of this store seems to have been influx for the past few months, but some think that Novato acceptance is only inevitable.
