On the Homefront Edition

Date April 26, 2009

Maven comes home to see her family, do laundry, blog, and search the Internet for Marin news items and what happens? Well, there is this site called Topix, which takes local newspaper articles, sorts them by city, and allows people to comment on news articles. What was amazing to me is that it seems to be a haven  for folk who are scared, angry, and apocalyptic about the brown illegals. These people watch FoxNews and Lou Dobbs. The sad thing is they seem to live in this county.

You have a sad story of deaths in Mexico of swine flu and these people make it about illegal immigration even though we know that climate change is going to bring a growth of epidemics.

You have to be a very angry person to criticize ICE raids for not breaking up more families, or wonder why illegals keep going to clinics and do not consider birth control.   There are so many things to be outraged about and they pick poor and powerless people to pick on. Very sad.

So Maven impulsively spent time offering a different pov not to change these guys’ minds but to at least let others know there are dissenting views.

Blech. After spending Saturday with like-minded folk at the California Democratic Party, what a jarring experience.
