RIP Marinwood Pylons

Maven always had mixed feelings about the pylons that greeted motorists that came off our Marinwood exit on Miller Creek Road. The pylons blocked the right turn onto Marinwood Avenue and Blackstone which made that corner safer. According to the traffic studies, the pylons did discourage the amount of freeway jumpers that were such a problem.

The pylons always seemed to be a bandaid to a larger problem of the design of 101 and that exit and the mismanagement of growth along the 101 corridor. It seems that the addition of the HOV along with economic decline, has made a difference in reducing traffic and therefore traffic jumpers.

They were an eyesore and every once in awhile you would see where someone had penetrated the pylons to make the right turn.
