Novato Residents Have It Tough

Yesterday morning there was an attempted bank robbery at the Bank of America on Grant Avenue in Novato. The armed robber was thwarted when he was given a bank bag with nothing in it.

Trouble the Water

Recently, if you live in the Bel Marin Keys area were notified that FEMA came out with new flood maps in the area that have now compels homeowners to buy flood insurance. County officials say that they didn’t have time to review the maps before the appeal deadline and residents were told that they didn’t have to worry about flood because of the system of locks. This new map effects 1200 residents across the county that will probably be forced to buy FEMA’s “cheaper” insurance by the May 4th deadline. The cost is $350 the first year, but balloons up after that. The county’s response is to encourage residents to pay out of pocket for a surveyor to argue with FEMA that their houses are above the flood plane.

The residents of Santa Venetia are effected as well.

From the comments on the forums I have seen, residents feel that county officials, and State and Federal representatives dropped the ball on this and find Woolsey’s trip to attend these meetings in the past couple of day mostly symbolic and after the fact. More Water Woes

Novato residents also got a notice in the mail that since they get 80% of their water from Sonoma County, which reservoirs are at 63%, they will have to reduce their use 15% and expect a 25% rate hike. The letter enthusiastically claims that brown lawns would be the new green lawns.
