Marin Gathers Against Injustice of Prop 8

Date November 15, 2008

I will be bringing my son this morning to the San Rafael City Hall (1400 5th Avenue, San Rafael )to protest the shameful passage of Proposition 8 between 10:30 and 12:30 this morning. I applaud the efforts of Join the Impact and the Courage Campaign for working so hard on organizing the reaction to this horrible passage.

Since I have written about this I have received notes from folks who have voted for this thing and are now regretting their decision. It is time for people regardless of how they voted to change this course and show Californians will fight for the rights of ALL CALIFORNIANS.

We live in a State of all faiths and those who have no faith have to live together. In order for us all to completely be free to exercise our consciences and morality we need to set boundaries. Our statehouse and county offices need to be able to reflect all citizens and protect their rights even if they are outnumbered. We are all in danger when we start denying rights to minorities.

Someone voted for this proposition brought up to me that we are not what is in the California Constitution, but I disagree. Our constitution is the contract we have with each other. It says what we value like the right to privacy and that we the people must vote before we raise taxes. Our state shines when we encode protections for all of our citizens, and we are diminished when we say that one group of citizens are unworthy of the same rights of the majority of Californians.

Until we overturn this injustice all of our rights are endangered. We have opened the door to a State where no minority is safe from having rights taken away. We are all less free. That should scare all of us even those who passed this proposition.

Lets fight this.
