Marin on November 4th

What will be happening in Marin on next Tuesday, November 4th? Hopefully, Marinites will be joining our family in walking to our polling place to vote in THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION IN OUR COLLECTIVE LIFETIMES, or being righteously smug that you have already voted absentee. For many election cycles, Marin Maven has lectured, cajoled, begged, whined, and berated on the importance of voting. Ditto times gazillion this time around.

What then do we do after we vote? We wait, bite our nails, cruise television news stations nervously, do time zone calculations to when the next group of polls close, and then wish we were at a party of like-minded folks for social nail-biting with alcohol.

You can start your election day celebrating early in a uniquely Marin-ish way. There is an eight-man hot tub at the Illumigarden in Mill Valley that will serve as an “Election Day Social Sculpture.” This installation by Lizabeth Eva Rossof will allow soakers to “reclaim the title that was dismissively placed on John Walker Lindh by GW Bush” and for Marinites “to celebrate their rights to vote, to democracy, to freedom, to equality and their rights to the personal protections that the Federal Government’s current administration has forsaken.” The event begins at 3pm and will be filmed and produced. There will be cocktails, wine, and cheese served and hot tub attire is requested. Mustaches, Mumus, and peacock feathers are encouraged. The Illumigarden is at 35 Corte Madera Avenue in Mill Valley.

The Oh-SO-Predictable Republican Venue

Oh, goodness! Is it a surprise that the Marin Republicans will be spending their election night “celebration” at a country club? The “festivities” will be at the Harbor Point Tennis and Swim Clube at 475 E. Strawberry Drive in Mill Valley. The “fun and laughter” starts at 6pm.

The Last Honest Election Party

Marin Libertarians and the Bay Area Bob Barr Meet up will be at the Roundtable Pizza in San Anselmo between 7-9 pm. This Roundtable is at 914 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

“The” Election Night Party

Who are WE kidding? The election night party in the County is the one that will be going on at the Marin Democratic Headquarters at 1344 4th Street (between C and D) in San Rafael. There will be streaming videos of election returns on a big screen and light refreshments. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

Northern Exposure — The Kids Are Alright

If you are near Sonoma State, there will be an election night party at the Sonoma State Student Union. The event will start at 5 pm and admission is free. Attendees can have their pictures taken with life-size images of Mccain and Obama. There will also be a student panel on ballot measures, speakers on American Civics, the effects of presidential elections, local and state politics, and more.

Maven will be eating chinese food with her son and husband while watching returns on teevee.
