Last Night’s State Senate Forum

Date April 25, 2008

Evelyn Woo and everyone at the 6th Assembly District Democrats Club should really pat themselves on the back for putting together last night’s State Senate Forum at College of Marin. Joe Nation, Mark Leno, and Carole Migden all showed up last night and the evening really did give you the feel for each candidate.

Evelyn was able to make a plug for the 6th Assembly District Democrats Club saying that they believe in “fun and politics.” They are planning on a June 3 bonfire and another party unity gather in November.

I can say that a few people last night echoed Northbayist complaint about no forum up in Sonoma County. Given that driving from Marinwood to College of Marin around 6pmish in heavy traffic was quite a trek, I can’t imagine folks from Sonoma having to go through that.

Plus, I got a free Senator Carole Migden potholder. On one side it says, Senator Carole Migden Protecting Our Coast and on the other side there are Sunflowers. In terms of political chachki, it was ingenious and baffling. Every political junkie in the district needs to have one in their kitchen. Thanks Carole.

Carole Migden came last night to announce that she had stop the spraying of the Light Brown Moth. Northbayist reported this as well and has apparently has taken a shine to her as well, but I got the potholder!

Carole Stops the Spray! Schwartzennegger announces postponement of Light Brown Apple Moth spraying. Today (April 24, 2008) Senator Carole Migden, joined by a delegation of Marin spray opponents convinced the Governor to postpone aerial treatment until acute testing of eye, inhalation, respiratory and other potential irritants, known as the “six pack” toxicology test, is completed. Senator Migden has introduced Senate Resolution 87 which calls for a moratorium on aerial spraying throughout California until the CDFA can prove that the spray is both safe and effective against the light brown apple moth. Given her difficulties over the past few weeks, she really needed something like this and she used it to good effect to reinforce her notion that she gets results. In the next posts I will share my impressions of all three candidates. Hopefully, we can get some video of the event here.

Marin IJ’s Brad Breithaupt and a reporter from The Ark Newspaper were there. The moderator was author, David Mathison and San Rafael City Council member, Greg Brockbank served as timekeeper.

Here is where I am on these candidates — I am still undecided. It is starting to look like I am going to have to go into the desert, smoke some peyote, and follow my shamanic spirit animal to the candidate to endorse. Unfortunately, peyote is illegal and I hate hot weather, so all I can do is use this blog to work through what happened last night and see if we can come to an endorsement together.
