Since it is wedding season again, I am going to be plugging local wedding vendors. For more ideas, check out my site Wedlightly.com. Cindi de Channes Photography is a local photographer I have admired for awhile who does both wedding and portraiture. Cindi is a native of Marin, raised in San Geronimo, and is now based in Petaluma. She says she has an intimate relation ship with the land and energy here in Marin. Marin and North Bay couples would do well to consider her for their wedding photography if they are marrying here.

She is also passionate about keeping a small eco-footprint.

Her use of natural light photo journalistic point of view is really nice. She approaches the wedding day as an observer and documentarist, giving reference to the couple’s experience of their own day. Her aim is to record the true story of the day, so the couple can return to those pictures and recall the sentiment, the humor, and joy. The spirit of her work is relaxed and spontaneous filled with genuine emotion. The direction and staging are limited to getting photos to that place where a relaxed and spontaneous pictures can occur.

When asked about the role of digital photography in professional wedding photography, she had this to say,
Digital photography is so new, with suddenly so many tools for manipulation and “improvement.” However, photographers’ excitement at all the new possibilities has led to extreme treatment of photographs. The way I see it, this new era in photography will go down in history the way the introduction of the synthesizer marks an era of over-the-top digital music. Refined use of digital tools in music today can go unnoticed and return to more natural sounds. I love digital photography and the digital darkroom for many reasons, but I am not impressed by seeing a photo’s digital-ness in my face. To me, the use of these tools is best limited to where they support the true story rather than steal the spotlight.
