Class 5 Climbing Gym Needs New Marin Location

As you may have heard, Touchtone Climbing Gym, Class 5 in San Rafael will be closing at the end of March 2008. Their landlord gave them 60 days to move out. The closure means that Marinites that want to have a climbing gym have to trek over to Berkeley. My impression of this place is that is has very cool atmosphere with very helpful people to get you comfortable with the sport of rock climbing. I think this would be a great place for kids as well as adults to get fit.

I think this is a shame and I would love to see someone step forward and offer these guys a place to move. They need a place that has at least 35ft ceilings. I was thinking that some place in Hamilton Landing would be great, but most of their climbers are in Southern Marin, so they prefer to be South of San Rafael. If you have an idea for a place or have a place they could move into, please email them or call them at 415-485-6931 before March 31st.

We should also contact our Supervisors to see if they can be helpful in finding a new home for this great place.

Please open a new gym in Marin. I have tried driving to berkeley and san francisco and it doesn't work during the work week. I have had to stop climbing and I miss it so much. Is there any chance for a new gym in marin?
