Fairfax Loses Rock Legend
March 12, 2008
The Marin IJ reported this morning that Marin and the world lost rocker, Chuck Day, after a long illness. Day is best known for the guitar riff from Secret Agent Man from 1966 (the year I was born). He played with the Mamas and the Papas and Johnny Rivers. It turns out he was also the father of Cass Elliot’s daughter, Owen.
Day moved to Fairfax in 1969 and has been a integral part of the Fairfax music scene.
On Saturday, March 22nd at 4pm, musicians will march in a parade in Day’s honor in downtown Fairfax. After the parade, a celebration of his life will be held at the 19 Broadway.
Memorial donations may be made to Music Cares (www.grammy.com/MusiCares), the Grammy foundation that provides critical health and human services to musicians in need.
