Giving Maven: Marin’s Food Bank
November 18, 2007

There are people in our county who struggle to put food on the table even when we live in the most affluent county in the country. I bet there are people out there who can help out.
A couple of a total of 600 Marin Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts came to our door yesterday to collect food for the Marin Food Bank. We gave pasta and several cans of soup, corn, tuna, and veggies. We try to give generously as we can. The scouts fell short of their goal of 55k pounds by 25k. So lets see if we can help make up the difference. Also, it would be great if we can remind ourselves to support the food bank.
The Food Bank’s Top 10 Food Items Needed:

The Food Bank of Marin is always looking for adults to commit to 1 regular day per week for a minimum of 4 hours are needed all year long to sort and bag donated food and help with the Seniors’ Brown Bag Program.
Between November 15th to December 31st, the Food Bank will need volunteers with vans or covered trucks to help pick up food donations from schools and other locations and bring them to the Food Bank. You can also Adopt-A-Barrel by checking on one of the Food Collection Barrels daily.
They also need people to donate paper grocery bags. They use 5000 bags a month, so this would be a great way to recycle your grocery bags. If you have school age children or if you are crafty, you can decorate grocery bags that will go to seniors and shut-ins. They need 500 decorated bags a month. This could be a great activity for birthday parties, classrooms, and just a rainy day.
