Marin County Is Bad For The Climate
August 2, 2006
Can our affluence be killing us?
How can a county with such great climate be so bad for the climate? An environmental education group puts the county’s ecological footprint at 27 “global” acres per person, where the national average is 24. It turns out that being a politically progressive county is not enough, when conspicuous consumption rears its head. For every Prius (some argue that more energy is expended by building the Prius than it saves in energy), there is a hummer, escalade, lexus suv, lincoln navigator, and dodge ram. Another culprit is the monster homes, which take more energy to maintain than smaller homes.Â
