Golden Gate Ferry & Bus Hikes

Date March 27, 2006

There are going to be yearly price hikes for Golden Gate Ferry & Buses. You know that won’t stop them from hiking bridge tolls.
SF Chronicle:

“Golden Gate Bridge tolls now subsidize 40 percent of the cost of running buses and 46 percent of the ferry system. Most transportation experts believe it is only a matter of time before directors consider raising bridge tolls again. They were last raised in 2002, when they were jacked up $2 for cash-paying motorists and $1 for people using FasTrak, totaling $5 and $4, respectively.”

Is it our imagination or does this remind us of a friend who keeps promising if you lend him money, you won’t ever have to again, but he keeps coming back for more?  Is it really the after-effects of the dot-com bust and economic recession? Are increased fuel costs?
